We often get the question: “What does the “FI” stand for in FI Venturers?” We are glad you asked!

FI stands for Financial Independence. In short, being financially independent means you no longer have to work to cover the costs of a life you enjoy.

Say what?! How could this be possible?

To us, financial independence is freedom to enjoy the adventurous life. Financial Independence is a goal we set for ourselves in early 2019. After discovering the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement, we sat down at the end of 2018 and reviewed our total financial picture (thank you Personal Capital). This gave us a comprehensive picture of where we were spending our money. From there we identified areas to reduce our spending, which required us to be intentional about where our dollars went (hello travel, goodbye cable!). Lastly and importantly, we came up with a plan to strategically invest the money we had saved so our money could keep growing for us! Check out Part I of our story to learn more about the early years.

Working towards financial independence has given us options we could have never imagined improve our quality of life. Which, at the end of the day, who doesn’t want a better quality of life?! Check out Part II of our story to learn more about the changes we made and our life experiments after discovering the FI movement.

Do you want to take a leave of absence from a grueling job that has left you burned out? FI helped me take a leave of absence for 60-days. Do you want to quit your 9-5 and slow travel in an RV with your family? FI can help with that. Do you simply want a life full of more intention and purpose, even if you don’t know what that means yet? FI can help with that by providing options.

There are so many great resources to help you learn more about FI. A few of our favorites include ChooseFI and Mr. Money Mustache. Maybe books are more your thing, in which case check out A Simple Path to Wealth and Your Money or Your Life. Beware, once you go down the rabbit hole, there is no coming back!
